On March 15 and 16, ART-SPACE hosted a unique master class by world-famous watercolorist Ilya Ibryaev. Participants had an opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of light and airiness of watercolor, mastering bold and confident techniques of working with this material.
About the master class
During two days Ilya Ibryaev shared his secrets of mastery, helping participants to discover the limitless possibilities of watercolor. Special attention was paid to creating the effect of light and atmosphere in paintings. During the practical classes the artist demonstrated techniques of working with large fills, strokes, pigment splashing and graphics, which allowed the participants to master bold artistic techniques.
Master class program
Day 1: “The State of Morning Fog.”
The first day of the workshop was devoted to rendering misty haze and morning light. Participants learned to work with tonal transitions, to convey the atmospheric nature of the landscape and to play with wet layers of paper to create soft gradients.
Day 2: “Sunset.”
On the second day, participants created a painting filled with sunlight breaking through the clouds and reflecting in the water. In the course of work Ilya Ibryaev told about the principles of aerial perspective, composition according to the law of “golden section”, as well as about the techniques of creating glare and contrast.
