Media about us

After the Old New Year, when all the miracles had already happened and nothing was a surprise, the new exhibition space Art Space on Tverskaya opened the exhibition “Emotions of Color” in the complete absence of light. Here is a special report with exclusive interviews for Greenword.ru by art observer Camille Lazart, Art Unison.

The guests, collectors, auctioneers, representatives of business communities, statesmen, politicians, scientists, bloggers and media personalities, like characters from the film “Night at the Museum”, wandered through the gallery spaces with smartphone flashlights, lighting their way and looking with curiosity into the bright colored images viewed from the walls. A fairy-tale worldview of wonder, long-awaited surprise and magic for adult children emerged. It was especially pleasant to find the already familiar part with African masks left over from the exhibition about Africa, and Zakomorny’s sculptures with graceful girls.

But mostly there were more and more new images, full of color, light and different textures. It was a real journey in total darkness, looking for something to delight and enchant.

After wandering around the halls of paintings in search of meaning, in contact with color and light, I managed to find and miraculously interview the most elegant lady in pink: Laura Dan, Executive Director of the Foundation for Support of Culture and Development of Contemporary Art.

Very happy to see you exotically brightly blooming in your unique for Moscow space Agt Space, at the opening of the third exhibition in this place under the sensual title “Emotions of Color”. I was intrigued by this complete darkness and play for the audience… Is this an interesting idea or a coincidence of circumstances ?

– If we reflect on the fact that design is always out of our hands, then I guess you could say that it really is designed that way. But I won’t lie: it was unexpected for us, too. But what I am very pleased about is that many guests took this situation in a friendly way, in fact no one left, no one left us in this, let’s say, difficult situation. And this is very valuable for us. We appreciate every guest who comes to us!

We are insanely proud of the fact that Moscow, the capital of culture, gathers so many beautiful, intelligent people, and we are very pleased that all these people come to us. We, of course, as organizers, put a lot of effort into putting together the new exhibition, and its concept is both simple and complicated. Because it seems to be easy to convey light with colors, but it is difficult to convey emotion in any performance. For an artist, musician, painter or dancer, it is always a challenge to express oneself.

Our exhibition contains positive works, there is not a single gloomy work. It is colorful, beautiful, solemn, bright and at the same time does not cause any cacophony. And we are very proud that our artists make such worthy works. We are very pleased to cooperate with them, and we invite them again and again, because we want to see all the people who come to us enjoy the images that create the mood.

Are these new artists? Or ones you’ve collaborated with before ?

– Most of them are new artists and we are doubly pleased with that. Most of them have not collaborated with us before. Of course, there are also maestros who have participated in our festivals.

Vladimir dolgov

As you know, in painting, colorists belong to a special caste, and above all because not everyone can approach perfection in this skill. Among the artists who will give us unforgettable emotions through the magic of color, there are completely unknown names and recognized masters:

Varoslava Liseeva

Dmitry Belyukin – Soviet and Russian painter, master of landscape, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation;

Vladimir Naumov – Soviet and Russian film director, screenwriter, producer, teacher, People’s Artist of the USSR, winner of the USSR State Prize;

Ivan Matvienko is a painter, sculptor and producer of the famous singer Elena Vaenga. Since childhood, he has been able to instantly transfer what he saw onto a sheet of paper, preserving the brightness of emotions and the sincerity of the moment;

Andrei Voronin is an artist, also known as Alvaro Neelix, who works in his unique Psy Art style. Inspired by new ideas and techniques he encountered while traveling in Asia, he will present works in easel painting.

But most of them are names that we are discovering for the first time. And we are very pleased that they are very beautiful beautiful works.

Until what day will the exhibition last? Until spring?

– The exhibition will run through February 16. There are several other major events planned for the second part of our exhibition. We will be sure to share that news. We are still working on a few more events as part of this exhibition. We’ll be sure to engage all of that and invite attendees. We promise, it’s going to be very cool.

There is news that there will be more workshops and lectures on color perception. Could you say a few more words about the cultural and educational part of the project?

– We are trying very hard to make this space not only beautiful, but also smart. That’s why we gather representatives of the academic world who are directly related to art. And not as artists, but as researchers who do it on a professional basis. We are inviting lecturers to participate, and we plan to organize lectures, master classes, and film screenings. We will cover all of this on our telegram channel, VKontakte.

For those who want to try their creative powers themselves, master classes on painting and art therapy will be organized as part of the exhibition. Leading psychologists and art critics will give lectures on the influence of color on the perception of art and the surrounding reality.

The theme of color is mysterious and inexhaustible. How wonderful that this idea came to you in winter, when there is such a lack of color in life, I hope that this exposition will help us, Muscovites and guests of the capital, to overcome the gray everyday life of the Russian winter.

I also remember the film trilogy made in 1993-1994 by Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski: “Three Colors: Blue”, “Three Colors: White”, “Three Colors: Red”. Where there is this sensual perception of color and the metamorphosis of the world, the sense of taste and smell of the color of life, through the dramaturgy of the story. I hope you’ll watch it and maybe show it. And we’ll be waiting for your announcements .

I continued wandering through the galleries again. My eyes were getting used to the darkness. The Alphabet was discovered in a new reading by the artists.

And then lured huge strange letters in the technique of dripping, with philosophical riddles and an autograph in the form of a fingerprint of the artist Svetlana Dityatovka. Geometric patterns were folded into letters, and in places they were folded into the textures of Old Russian ornament. I was interested in these works, and I asked the artist what she creates works about, and this is what I heard:

Svetlana Dityatovkaya

– First of all, the word is important to me, color comes later. First I think about what to write, and then I think about how to show it, what color to use. It’s a complicated work with a stencil. It is interesting that these philosophical clichés of mine are perceived by different generations in different readings. For example, the older generation reads the work “Life is expensive” as “alas life is expensive…!” And all the younger generation reads “life is kind of a road…” Or, for example, the following work, where young people read “Tusu…yes…yes…”, and for old people it is “there to here”, but if you look closely, the letters go up there and down here, creating a vector of directions. There’s also a childhood argument here, in all arguments that can’t be interrupted, can’t be refuted: “And you buy an elephant.”
