“Roots of Time” – an exhibition about heritage, memory and the flow of life.
Artistic dynasties as a unique phenomenon, as a code of Russian culture, as a factor of historical memory – this is the main theme of the exhibition “Roots of Time”
The exhibition is designed to explore the theme of generational memory in the context of family traditions. The main emphasis in the presented works is made on the continuity of generations of artists through the transfer of knowledge and skills, original artistic techniques and crafts. We will show works where the son’s brush continues the movement of the father’s brush.
A special place in the exhibition belongs to artists who see art not only as an act of creation, but also as an act of cultural preservation. Those who have transferred ancient crafts and methods into a modern context, filling them with new meaning, carefully passing on this knowledge so that they do not dissolve in the flow of time.
“Roots of Time” is a reminder that by creating art today, we continue the labor of those who have gone before us. At the exhibition, we will be able to see how ideas, experiences and love for art are passed on through time, preserving a living connection between kindred souls.
It is the visual arts that can preserve the historical memory of places that no longer exist. Through the works of family dynasties, we can see how a moment is frozen on canvas, in a photograph or installation. How artworks become a kind of time repository, where images of the past and the present are juxtaposed, where disappeared towns, houses and landscapes are depicted, and the faces of people remind us of our place in the continuous flow of life.
